Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of Martine Federmeyer-Gwynne’s art at the Paul Wurth Hall in Fond-de-Gras!
This multidisciplinary artist from Luxembourg lives and works in the North East of England. The main themes in Federmeyer-Gwynne’s art are the clash between nature and old industrial structures. Shapes, lines and textures, created and shaped by weather and age-related elements, are of particular interest to this artist.
In her paintings, Federmeyer-Gwynne strives less for a realistic depiction of landscapes and buildings, but rather for a reflection of the essence of a place or an industrial ruin. She wants to create depth and history in her works and encourage the viewer to linger, observe and reflect. Her artistic approach is process-oriented and based on observation and research.
Since 2022, the artist has been striving to make her creative practice more environmentally friendly. She uses raw pigments from local minerals – in this project, iron ore from the Minett region – to capture and depict the place that is meaningful to her. Her work is characterized by visually and aesthetically interesting textures that evoke decay and weathering.
Her current project “Aus Eisen” is a tribute to her family and the history of Luxembourg. Without the important natural element of iron, Luxembourg’s industrial, financial and social development would have looked very different.
