Founded in 1988 under the impulse of Pit Mischo, the Naturschoul de Lasauvage will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2018. Its current team consists of 4 teachers from the Communes of Differdange and Pétange. We met Laurent Bertolini who presented the activities of this extraordinary school which should welcome this year nearly 550 school classes.
The Nature School offers not less than 60 educational workshops for children in nursery and primary schools, mainly in the Communes of Differdange and Pétange but also throughout the country. Thanks to its know-how and its high quality educational material, the Naturschoul team can thus make the younger generations aware of the respect for the environment and its fauna. It would take too long to list all the workshops, here is a small selection: nature in winter, the farm, the inhabitants of the river, butterflies, fossils, beehives…
Depending on the theme chosen, the classes can go to the beautiful school garden, wander in the forest or venture to the banks of the river to discover the remarkable plants and animals of our region.
At the time, Laurent Bertolini, a teacher in Pétange, noticed that most of his pupils were not very interested in nature. This is why he used to come several times a year with his class to Lasauvage. Following his retirement, Laurent took the opportunity to join the Nature School’s teaching team, where he can now devote himself fully to his passion.
His favourite themes are, among others, those related to mining, but also the archaeological past present on the Titelberg, the impressive Celtic oppidum overlooking Lamadelaine and Fond-de-Gras. It is in this magnificent location that Naturschoul organises an annual week of educational workshops on the life of the Celts.
In addition to the regular programmes offered throughout the school year, Laurent and his colleagues at Naturschoul also organise special days and do not hesitate to collaborate in certain events, notably those organised by the Minett Park Fond-de-Gras.
