When we think of mining, we often think of underground tunnels. However, there was another method of ore extraction in our region: open-pit mining. Very close to Fond-de-Gras lies one of these former open-pit mines, commonly known as “Giele Botter”. Our experienced guide will introduce you to this vast area, which has been transformed into a nature reserve.
The geology, history, and impact of human activity make this reserve a UNESCO World Heritage Site not to be missed. The nature walk offers many interesting discoveries, including different biotopes and related conservation efforts.

The route is not suitable for people with reduced mobility or strollers. Please leave your pets at home. Bring walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
