When we think of mining, we often think of underground tunnels. In our region, however, there was another method of ore extraction: open-cast mining. Very close to Fond-de-Gras is one of these old open-cast mines, commonly known as ‘Giele Botter’. Our experienced guide will show you this huge area, which is now a nature reserve.
The geology, history and impact of human activity make this reserve a UNESCO World Heritage Site not to be missed. There are many interesting things to discover on this nature walk, including the various biotopes and the associated conservation measures.
