When we think of mining, we often think of underground galleries. However, there was another way of ore extraction in our region: open-cast mining. Close to Fond-de-Gras is one of these former open-cast mines, commonly known as “Giele Botter.” Our experienced guide will take you through this extensive area, which has been transformed into a nature reserve.
The geology, history, and the impact of human activity make this reserve a UNESCO-listed site not to be missed. The nature walk will provide a wealth of interesting discoveries, including different biotopes and related conservation work.
