On Thursday 19th January 1933, a gallery collapses on a length of 45 metres in Fond-de-Gras in the “Thy-le-Château” mine, trapping 6 miners. The rescue teams works unceasingly day and night and refuses to leave, regardless of the uncertainty that their co-workers are still alive. On Saturday evening, 21st January at 6.30 pm the 6 mine workers can finally be saved.
Despite having starved and feared for their lives for more than 48 hours around temperature of 6°C, each man is alive and well.
