On the occasion of the exhibition “No Church in the Wild,” a collective of artists composed of Julie Wagener, Lascar, Spike, Joël Rollinger, and Alain Welter is taking residence at the Sainte-Barbe church in Lasauvage.
The desacralization of this former place of worship in 2018 has not taken away its air of sublimity and mystical charm. It is not surprising, then, that this encounter will inspire the artists to confront the subject of the dichotomy of heaven and hell. Following their respective approaches and techniques, the artists will offer works that are intended as reflections on this duality, while appropriating and experimenting with Judeo-Christian visual symbolism and canons. Polyptych constructions, collage mediums, luminous installations – the various works will serve as spokespersons for what the artists may perceive as good and evil in our present society.
