Train 1900 Open Day: a journey through railway history
A not-to-be-missed opportunity for train enthusiasts and the curious of all ages. This day marks a double anniversary: 120 years of the Arbed Differdange n°12 locomotive and 50 years of Train 1900 service.
Discover the secrets of steam locomotive maintenance and operation thanks to guided tours offered by Train 1900 volunteers. They offer a behind-the-scenes look at the railway world, as well as the history and workings of the association.
The ProActif workshops will also be open to visitors, giving them an insight into the renovation of railway equipment and the trades offered by the employment reintegration scheme, which has been active on the site for over 20 years.
Captivating demonstrations of blacksmithing and metalworking will enable visitors to observe these ancient techniques at close quarters.
The curious will also have the opportunity to discover the motorized draisine in action, as well as to take part in velorail races for a dose of adrenaline.
Visitors will have the chance to explore a steam locomotive up close, right on the station platform. Exceptionally, four steam locomotives will be warming up: ADI 12 – Hanomag from 1903, AL T3 – Grafenstaden from 1891, AES 5 – Orenstein & Koppel from 1912 and Cockerill 503 – John Cockerill from 1920.
For visitors, there’s no better way to reach the Fond-de-Gras than by Train 1900, from its departure platform in Pétange (rue de Niederkorn, free parking). Departures are scheduled at 11:00* (Diesel), 13:15, 14:15, 15:30, 16:15, 17:30 and 18:15* (Diesel). Price: adults 14€, children (5-11 years) 11€.
The mining train “Minièresbunn” will have four departures: at 11:05, 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00, for an impressive journey into the heart of the mine.
At the buffet in the charming Fond-de-Gras station, grilled meats, French fries, homemade cakes and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
