,,A train in winter‘‘
…or at any other season of the year. Here and elsewhere, now or in the past, the game is to blur the time marker and let yourself be carried away by poetry without false nostalgia on the train journey. Reclaiming a soft, tender and mysterious atmosphere at the same time. Close the door of the passenger compartment, hear the head of the railway station’s whistle that gives the start and let yourself be lulled by the sound of the rails.
’’Photography to escape everyday life and to invent another one’’ this could be the central idea of Stéphane Janiec in his relation to the photography. This child of a miner witnessed the last days of the steel industry where he saw the heavy iron ore trains circulating nearby. It was from there that his interest in railway was born, but without really getting attached to it.
Around the age of 27, his beginnings in the great adventure of photography coincided, during a walk in Luxembourg, with the discovery of the Train 1900; it is a return to childhood, that translates into a strong attraction for trains.
It will not take long to develop a certain idea of the romanticism that the train journey can offer. An idea that Stéphane Janiec is now trying to transcribe through the camera. He is also a street photographer, fan of the humanistic current, thus creating a mixture of genres in railway photography.
